The middle of the scale is 30 miles, 3 Bft, 3 days of travel or 8 weeks of travel per year. Night, port changes, regattas and tidal waters show real shares. The guidelines are the same for all seasons and boats.
How to read a profile
For range, wind, and hike length, conventional values take up more space on the graph. Between the indicated landmarks the scale changes smoothly. These are the chosen style guidelines; the middle does not mean the average of all boaters.

One trip - a trip, training course or regatta from the list of sailings; in seasonal selections, each individual outing is considered a trip. The number of days is taken according to local dates with exits. Trips carry the same weight regardless of the number of tracks on the trip.
Regularity - different local weeks with exits. One vacation week and a week with several days off are counted once each. For several years, the average is shown by season with records; years without records are not counted as zero. A partial season is not counted towards a full year.
Beaufort force is averaged over hours of modelled wind. Wave height is shown separately because it also depends on fetch and swell. This profile describes sailing habits; a larger area does not mean greater skill.
There is no data for some parameters; Only known values are shown.

How are these numbers calculated?
Miles and speed. We take miles from tracks; average speed - distance / entire passage time, including stops within the recording. “Best in 5 minutes” is the maximum average speed for this segment according to GPS time stamps. If there are no marks or the export has spaced them evenly, we don’t create a record. All velocities are relative to the ground.
Days on the water. Each calendar day of departure is counted once, regardless of duration and water area. We take the dates in the local time of the ports. Passing midnight adds a day; several passages on one date give one day.
Night. We calculate the Sun’s position from the date and the boat’s coordinates. Night hours are the part of a passage between sunset and sunrise, including evening and morning twilight. Departure and arrival times come from the record. GPS timestamps refine the boat’s position; without them, we use progress along the saved route. Polar daylight contributes no night hours. Tidal / Non-tidal. By RYA determinationtidal effects should significantly influence passage planning. The Skagerrak, Kattegat and Oslofjord are classified as Non-tidal according to the practice of these voyages. Miles are distributed among route sections without double counting. This is an editorial classification.
Geography and years. Countries are counted by ports of departure and arrival; Passing past the shore does not count as a visit. Ports and marinas are united by name. Miles of water areas are distributed without double counting and are approximate. The passage refers to the start year.
I like exploring new waters and understanding how my boat works. These are my passages, experiences aboard different yachts and the journey from a first cruise to owning a boat.
