Repair and maintenance

Launch day: 12 April 2024.

I arrived in the morning. Time for a few jobs while the harbourmaster managed the queue according to a system known only to him. Eventually, someone waved and said they’d get to me in about forty minutes. I asked which side would face the pier. Starboard.

Up aboard to prepare two starboard mooring lines: first to control the boat’s rotation on the crane, then to secure her to the pier. Back down, ladder and surrounding gear cleared away. I found a dried roller and poured some remaining antifouling into a tray.

A tractor with a platform arrived and lifted the yacht’s cradle, then took her to the crane. They put her in the slings and lifted. Square patches on the sides and strips beneath the keel, inaccessible during painting, were now exposed. I had time to paint them with the tray and roller.

The yacht was moved over the water, lowered and secured alongside. With the slings still in place, I was invited to check for leaks. Bilge, seacocks, keel bolts: all dry. Slings removed.

I switched on the engine supply, started it, and gave it five minutes to warm up. Checked smoke and cooling water at the exhaust, then went below to see water entering the strainer and check the impeller pump for leaks.

By then, the crane had started lifting the next yacht. I pushed off and headed for the mast crane.
