The next day, 8 May 2023, I viewed a Linjett 30 for 135,000 kronor.
The taped-up forehatch and battered stem caught my eye immediately. Near the cockpit were holes covered with reinforced tape. A dinghy was included. The anchor was deployed from the stern. Lines led inside; four winches. The navigation instruments didn’t work. No autopilot installation, and I wouldn’t get far without one. Plywood fixed to the deckhead above the oven was badly charred. Inside was rather narrow, with headroom slightly below my height.
On the plus side, the port locker was well organised: diesel tank, two batteries, fridge and Webasto heater fitted neatly inside. The owner repeatedly said he’d never seen a single drop of water in the boat. The real highlight, though, was the new engine from 2020. It looked perfect. Unlike the keel bolts, black with rust.
As we said goodbye, the seller offered to drop the price to 110,000 kronor for a quick sale. He clearly wanted to recover the cost of the engine.
Back at the hotel, frustration set in. Of twelve shortlisted yachts in Stockholm, five had sold, three were racing-oriented and Alexei had advised against viewing them, two hadn’t replied, and I’d seen two. My hotel booking was running out. I had to choose between going home and trying other Swedish towns.
