I spotted a call for crew for the second round of the Federation Cup.

In the Sailing Desk chat, I spotted a call for crew for the second round of the Moscow Sailing Federation’s Federation Cup. Quarter Ton class, aboard a Dufour 24. The price was 8,000 roubles for two days, from 9am to 6pm.

13 August 2022. First day of racing. I was on the foredeck: hoisting the spinnaker, handling the pole and working the guys at the bow. But we had barely passed under the Dmitrovskoye Highway bridge when a prosecco cork popped in the cockpit…

The answering pennant flew from the committee boat for two hours: start postponed. Then up went flag November, abandoning racing. Meanwhile, we drifted along under sail, popped more corks, ate potatoes with creamy mushrooms, and swam with an Alexandrov rescue line to hang on to. We met Dmitry Samoilov and tried to help pull a yacht off a lee shore.

Our skipper Igor stepped on a broken wine-glass stem. Out came the hydrogen peroxide and plasters. That evening, at Kir’s flat, the celebrations continued with cider, carbonara, Zemfira and board games.
