6 October 2023. Oslo. Rain greeted the new day.
In the morning, we visited the Historical Museum. A sparse exhibition: a couple of Viking swords, a dozen military decorations and about as many suits of samurai armour. Norwegians seem fond of Japan: several museums have whole rooms devoted to it, and every town has more sushi bars than bakeries.
I really wanted to visit the Viking museum, but it’s closed for rebuilding until 2025.
The contemporary art museum was open, though. No match for Erarta in St Petersburg, of course, but we had a lovely time looking at the works. Far less poverty, depression and death in them than in Russian paintings.
Afterwards, a peaceful walk through the Royal Palace park, looking at ducks and guards in national dress.
We departed at two in the morning. By then, we were asleep.
