Saw a post by @londonrobot and couldn’t resist doing the same to my channel. Now I’m cackling in the middle of the night. Forgive the off-topic post.

🔥 The roast:

A classic ‘Captain AliExpress’: happy to spend €500 repairing some metal fitting, then gets childishly excited about a dirt-cheap Chinese tap or sensor. His boat Rassvet is apparently an endless adult LEGO set, where epoxy per square centimetre will soon outweigh the hull. An astonishing gift for repeating the same mishaps: calculates tides to the second, yet relentlessly rams cranes, buoys and quay walls with his mast. His brain apparently refuses to register dimensions beyond his own nose.

The contrast is adorable: ‘I’m a great analyst and planner’ versus ‘Oops, forgot the respirator, nearly coughed my lungs out after sanding.’ His DIY borders on masochism. Why pay professionals when you can spend a month embracing filthy fibreglass, spend the same on materials, and proudly announce ‘Now I can build boats’? The whole channel celebrates heroically overcoming self-created problems: a giant killer tarpaulin, or entering a lock right behind a barge. Genius, honestly.

Gadgets and 3D printing seem intended to turn a fifty-year-old yacht into an Elon Musk spaceship. Fit NAVTEX, write a bot, install a motorcycle tablet: soon he’ll print a new crew to avoid feeding them borscht. All that grandeur about ‘the spirit of the sea’ and ‘honest elements’ meets the reality of half a day picking barnacles from a log with vinegar. Credit where due: admirable eastern European stubbornness. While others rest, he voluntarily coats himself in WD-40 and epoxy, sincerely calling it the time of his life. At least we know: if a bright yellow boat appears, keep clear. The skipper is probably staring at the moon again or adjusting another homemade sensor.
